Please Help Zephryus!
We rescued a very
special horse in January 2004. Ricky (his name upon arrival) came to us as a three year old Thoroughbred that looked like a 9 month old. He was afraid to be touched, was underweight by more than half what he should be, had curled toes from lack of farrier work, and long manure-coated hair. But
Ricky proved that proper care and lots of love can make a huge difference! In just six months his legs have straightened from proper foot care, he has put on about 300 lbs and is the first horse to greet everyone at the barn!
In the last 1.5 years at the barn Ricky, now renamed Zephyrus, is
over 16H and weighs over 1000 lbs! He is filling in like an
adult should and runs beautifully. His surgery was successful
and he will be going to a trainer in Fall of 2005.
What does Zephyrus mean?
Gentle west wind based on the Greek God, Zephyr, that gave birth to the two
horses that pulled Achilles' chariot.
The West Wind is, as this phrase
suggests, is a manifestation of spiritual or supernatural energy,
associated with breath, respiration and inspiration, with pneuma and
anima, the Holy Ghost or Spirit, the spirit of life itself. Our Zephryus has a
inspiring
gait that makes you think of a gentle wind.
